An EV brand preference survey measures how potential and current electric vehicle owners view competing EV brands. Quarterly surveys work well for tracking market shifts and competitive launches. Start with the market leaders (Tesla, BYD, Volkswagen) and add emerging competitors relevant to your target audience. Include direct competitors to your brand or product line, plus 1-2 rising challengers. Keep the list to 5-7 brands so respondents don't experience survey fatigue while still capturing the competitive landscape.

Measure decision factors (price, range, technology, environmental values), ownership intent, switching triggers, and perception of brand strengths. Include questions about charging experience, dealership satisfaction, and future brand predictions. This reveals not just who respondents prefer, but why and when they'd switch.

Use preference data to identify messaging gaps—if competitors are winning on innovation but you lead on reliability, emphasize that advantage. Track switching triggers to understand when buyers consider alternatives. Monitor perception shifts quarterly to catch emerging brand threats early and adjust positioning accordingly.
